KMTC Student Anne Adhiambo Killed Days Before Graduation Over Pair of Trousers

Anne Adhiambo was reportedly only days away from completing her studies when her life was tragically cut short at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nairobi Campus, leaving her family and colleagues devastated.

The 29-year-old was a final-year student pursuing a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery. She enrolled at KMTC in September 2024 and was reportedly the only daughter in her family. Her death came at a time when she was preparing to complete her training and graduate.

According to details emerging from investigations, Adhiambo left Room 220 at the Mary Griffin Hostel on the morning of July 7, 2026, reportedly intending to attend church. During her movement from the hostel, she allegedly encountered another female student wearing trousers that she had previously been looking for.

A confrontation reportedly followed between the two students. Adhiambo was subsequently persuaded to enter a ground-floor hostel room where five female students were said to be present.

Investigators and findings from a post-mortem examination reportedly raised serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding her death. The examination found that Adhiambo had suffered significant injuries, including trauma to her head caused by what was described as a blunt object. Marks around her neck and tongue were also reportedly consistent with possible strangulation. Additional injuries, including bite marks on her abdomen, were documented, while blood was reportedly observed around her nose and ears.

The post-mortem, conducted at Nairobi Funeral Home, ruled out suicide, with the nature of the injuries pointing investigators toward a violent assault.

Adhiambo’s body was later discovered inside Room 220 on the upper floor of the hostel. A roommate who returned from classes at approximately 11pm reportedly found her lying on the floor in a position that blocked the doorway.

The five students allegedly left the campus following the incident. Homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations based in Kasarani subsequently took charge of the case. However, according to public updates available in August, no arrests had been announced.

KMTC said it had provided investigators with CCTV footage and relevant security records while assuring authorities of its cooperation with the investigation.

In the days following Adhiambo’s death, her parents travelled to the campus to collect her belongings. Her grieving mother was reportedly seen praying at the campus gate, while her father expressed his pain as he prepared to take his daughter’s possessions home.

Rather than returning home to celebrate their daughter’s graduation, the family left the institution carrying her belongings, bringing a heartbreaking end to the future she had been preparing for.
