“He Is With Us, Let Me Assure You”: Ruto Addresses Oburu’s Health Condition

President William Ruto has spoken about the health of ODM party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, assuring Kenyans that the veteran politician remains the party’s leader.

Ruto made the remarks on Wednesday, October 7, during the official handover and dedication of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.

“Oburu Oginga is currently receiving medical attention, but I want to assure you that he remains our party leader. We respect him greatly, and he is with us,” Ruto said.

The President’s remarks came as Oburu missed the important ceremony after being advised by his doctors to rest and limit his physical engagements.

Oburu’s son, Jaoko Oburu, represented him at the event and delivered a message on his behalf. In the message, Oburu said he was following strict instructions from his doctors to rest and reduce physical activities.

His absence came amid growing public concern about his health after reports circulated on social media claiming that he had died.

Oburu’s secretariat strongly rejected the reports on Tuesday, saying the ODM leader was alive, safe and in good spirits. The office also asked the public to rely on official communication instead of unverified social media reports.

Oburu was recently admitted to Nairobi Hospital, where he has been receiving medical care. Reports said he had earlier travelled to the United Kingdom for routine medical checks before returning to Kenya.

Despite his absence, Oburu sent a message to the ceremony, describing Raila’s mausoleum as a monument that would preserve his brother’s contribution to democracy, freedom, constitutionalism and national unity.

The event brought together President Ruto, members of the Odinga family and several political leaders as the country marked another important moment in preserving Raila’s legacy.

Ruto’s remarks have also provided a fresh public update on Oburu’s position in ODM as he continues following his doctors’ advice to rest.
