Ghanaians React As Haruna Iddrisu Drops Fresh Update About The Ongoing Strike
According to a report by The BBC Ghana today being Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has assured striking teachers that the government remains committed to addressing their concerns and finding a lasting solution to the issues that have led to the ongoing industrial action.
Speaking on the situation, the Education Minister acknowledged the grievances raised by the teachers and indicated that efforts would continue to resolve the outstanding matters and enable teachers to return to the classroom.
The teachers’ strike has been linked to several unresolved concerns, including demands relating to promotion and the corresponding placement of affected teachers on the appropriate salary levels. The industrial action has disrupted teaching and learning in schools, putting pressure on authorities to find a resolution.
Haruna Iddrisu said he understands the concerns of the teachers and assured them that steps would be taken to engage the relevant stakeholders in an effort to resolve the situation.
The Minister also called for continued dialogue between the government and the various teacher unions, stressing the importance of engagement in reaching an agreement that addresses the concerns of teachers while also ensuring that academic activities can resume.
According to him, the government is prepared to work with the unions to find practical solutions to the outstanding issues. He expressed the hope that ongoing discussions would help resolve the disagreements and bring the industrial action to an end.
The strike has generated concern among parents, students and other stakeholders in the education sector, particularly because of its potential impact on academic work and the school calendar.
Teacher unions have maintained that their demands must be addressed before they can fully return to work. The government, meanwhile, has been under pressure to engage the unions and resolve the issues through negotiations.
Haruna Iddrisu’s assurance is therefore expected to provide some encouragement to teachers and other stakeholders as discussions continue.
The Education Minister’s commitment also highlights the government’s desire to prevent the dispute from prolonging and to ensure that teachers can return to their duties as soon as a mutually acceptable resolution is reached.
