At least five people have been confirmed dead after a trailer lost control and rammed into three vehicles at Kabwohe Stage in Sheema Municipality.

The accident involved trailer which was travelling through Kabwohe town on Tuesday evening at about 8:30pm.

According to eyewitnesses, the trailer lost control and ploughed into three vehicles parked at the stage.

Two victims have been identified as Umar, a boda boda blocker, and Living, a motor vehicle mechanic who was working around the stage. Police and locals were still searching for more victims who could be trapped under wreckage.

Cause of accident is yet to be officially established, but locals blamed poor state of road.

“This road is very narrow and full of potholes yet Kabwohe is a very busy business town. Trailers struggle to control especially when it is loaded. Government should work on this road before we lose more people,” Ms Mary Kyosiimire said.

This adds to worrying trend of fatal accidents along Mbarara-Ishaka road. In six months, road has registered over 15 accidents.

By time of filing, police had arrived at scene to tow wreckage and manage traffic while bodies of deceased were taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV mortuary.
