Expect Heavy Morning and Afternoon Rains for the Next 4-Days if You Live in These Areas

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall in several parts of the country between Thursday, October 8 and Monday, October 12, 2026.

According to the five-day outlook released on Wednesday, October 7, weather conditions will vary across the country, with several areas expected to experience sunny mornings before rainfall develops later in the day. Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible in some counties.

Nairobi is expected to record light morning rains, followed by showers during the afternoon and at night. Temperatures in the capital are forecast to remain between 14°C and 28°C during the period.

In the south-eastern region, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui, Machakos and Makueni are likely to experience sunny intervals in the morning before afternoon showers. The evenings and nights are expected to be partly cloudy.

Coastal counties will also receive rainfall, with Mombasa and Kwale among the areas expected to record light to moderate showers during the forecast period.

In western Kenya, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and Siaya are expected to have generally sunny mornings before afternoon showers set in. The department warned that some of the afternoon rainfall could be accompanied by thunder and lightning. Light showers are also expected at night from Saturday through Monday.

Several counties in the Rift Valley, including Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia and Nakuru, are forecast to receive afternoon showers. Thunderstorms may occur in some areas, while temperatures are expected to range from about 10°C to 28°C.

The forecast further covers Turkana, West Pokot, Samburu, Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu, together with northern and north-eastern counties such as Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo and Meru.

Nyamira is also expected to experience sunny mornings and afternoon showers, with thunderstorms and lightning possible. Temperatures in the county are projected to range between 12°C and 29°C.

The meteorological department urged Kenyans to keep checking updated forecasts as weather conditions may change during the five-day period.
