Counties to Receive Heavy Rainfall Starting on Wednesday Evening
The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall across 23 counties, alongside strong winds in parts of northern Kenya, over the 24 hours ending at 9pm on Wednesday, October 7.
The forecast was released on Tuesday, October 6.
Counties set to receive rain include Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, Isiolo, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Kisumu, Siaya, Kericho, Kisii, Nakuru and Nyandarua.
Others are Meru, Nyeri, Embu, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu.
Residents of Turkana, Samburu and Marsabit should brace for southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots, equivalent to 12.5 metres per second.
The heaviest precipitation is expected in the northeast, where Mandera and Wajir will see moderate showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
Marsabit is likely to get moderate rain in the morning, especially around Moyale, with more showers possible in the afternoon and overnight.
Isiolo and Garissa will each receive light showers.
In western Kenya, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu and Trans Nzoia will have light showers and thunderstorms overnight, with activity returning in the afternoon alongside Vihiga.
Turkana, Homa Bay, Migori, Narok, Kajiado and Uasin Gishu are expected to stay largely dry with sunny spells.
Nairobi will start cloudy with a chance of light rain before sunny breaks, with temperatures between 16°C and 26°C.
Nyandarua will be the coldest county, ranging from 10°C to 23°C.
Along the coast, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu will be partly cloudy with sunny intervals and occasional light showers. Mombasa will record 24°C to 30°C, while Lamu will range from 24°C to 31°C.
Turkana will be the hottest county, peaking at 36°C, followed by Mandera at 35°C, Garissa at 34°C and Wajir at 33°C.
In the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday, Mandera recorded the highest rainfall at 40mm, which the department classifies as heavy.
