Cedi Falls Drastically Against the US Dollar According to Bank of Ghana

The Ghanaian cedi has recorded a notable decline in value against the United States dollar, according to the latest exchange rates released by the Bank of Ghana.

The Bank of Ghana’s Daily Exchange Rates for Wednesday, October 7, 2026, show that the US dollar is being bought at GH¢11.7941 and sold at GH¢11.8059.

The figures indicate that individuals and businesses dealing in foreign currency will need more cedis to purchase the US dollar compared with previous rates. The development could attract attention among importers, businesses and individuals who regularly conduct transactions in US dollars.

According to the Bank of Ghana, the published rates represent the average interbank rates used by commercial banks for transactions at the close of business on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

The latest figures also show the exchange rates for other major international currencies. The British pound sterling is buying at GH¢15.6555 and selling at GH¢15.6723.

The euro, on the other hand, is buying at GH¢13.2820 and selling at GH¢13.2952.

The exchange rate movement is closely watched because changes in the value of the cedi against major foreign currencies can affect the prices of imported goods and services. It can also influence businesses that rely on foreign currency for international trade and other transactions.

The latest Bank of Ghana figures therefore provide an important indication of the current position of the cedi against major global currencies.

With the US dollar selling at GH¢11.8059, market participants will continue to monitor developments in the foreign exchange market and how the cedi performs in the coming days.
