Bank of Ghana warns against taping, gluing damaged cedi notes for resale
The Bank of Ghana has warned the public against taping, gluing or otherwise repairing damaged Ghana Cedi banknotes for re-issuance.
The warning follows a video circulating on social media showing individuals repairing torn and soiled notes with adhesive tape as a business activity.
āDo not tape, glue, staple, re-join or otherwise attempt to repair damaged banknotes for re-issuance or recirculation,ā the Bank said.
According to the central bank, improperly repaired notes are unfit for circulation and could damage ATMs and currency-processing machines or be rejected when presented for payment or exchange.
The Bank of Ghana advised the public to take damaged notes to a commercial bank for examination and replacement under its procedures. It said more than half of the original note should be presented for examination.
āRespect the Cedi. It is our national pride,ā the Bank said.
