Bandits: They Tied My Son; When My Wife Said My Son Doesn’t Understand Hausa, They Slapped Her—Ani
Paul Ani, a relative of one of the victims abducted during a bandit attack in Babban Saura, Kaduna State, has recounted how the attackers broke into his home and abducted members of his family.
Ani shared the account during an interview on News Central TV, where he described the ordeal suffered by his family during the attack.
According to him, the incident occurred after residents had called for help but did not receive the assistance they needed. Ani said he remained inside his room while his daughter and other children stayed in separate rooms as the attackers moved through the area.
He explained that his son later ran into his room after the bandits broke into the house. Ani said the attackers beat him before tearing a wrapper and using it to tie his son.
The attackers subsequently went into the children’s room, where they allegedly picked up Ani’s grandson and took him away.
Ani said the bandits then spoke Hausa to his son, but his wife intervened and told them that their son did not understand the language.
According to him, the attackers responded violently by slapping his wife before eventually leaving the house through a wall they had broken.
Recounting the incident, Ani said: “They now tore a wrapper and tied my son, then went to the children’s room and picked my grandson. They started speaking Hausa to my son; my wife then intervened, saying my son doesn’t understand Hausa. They started slapping my wife.”
The incident was part of a wider bandit attack in Babban Saura, where nine residents were reportedly abducted.
Sources said the kidnappers were demanding ₦50 million each for two of the abducted victims, although the circumstances surrounding the demands were not fully detailed in Ani’s account.
He said his family members were in different rooms when the attackers entered the house, leaving them vulnerable as the bandits carried out the abduction.
The account also showed how the attackers allegedly used physical violence during the operation, with Ani describing how he was beaten, his son was tied up and his wife was slapped after attempting to explain that her son could not understand what the attackers were saying.
The attackers eventually escaped through a wall they had broken, taking the abducted family members with them.
The Babban Saura incident adds to concerns over attacks and abductions in parts of Kaduna State, where residents have continued to face security challenges.
