Afghan resistance groups claim killing of Taliban officials in targeted attacks

Armed resistance groups have claimed a series of attacks against Taliban officials in different parts of Afghanistan, saying opposition to the Taliban regime is intensifying, the 24NewsHD Tv channel reported on Wednesday.

The Afghanistan United Front said its fighters carried out a targeted operation in Khakrez district of Kandahar province, killing Abdul Rahman Kot, described by the group as an official of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.

According to the TV channel report, the resistance group alleged that the official had been involved in abuses against civilians, including violence, illegal arrests, false accusations and physical assault.

Separately, the National Mobilisation Front claimed responsibility for an operation against the Taliban regime in Jalalabad, saying the intelligence chief of Nangarhar prison was killed in the attack.

The group said armed operations against the Taliban would continue and vowed to maintain guerrilla attacks until what it described as the complete elimination of the Afghan Taliban, Islamic State and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

The resistance groups also claimed that growing public and armed opposition was weakening the Taliban’s hold on power.

The reported attacks come amid continuing claims by anti-Taliban groups of armed operations against Taliban officials and security personnel in different parts of Afghanistan.
