10 Ahmedabad Schools Receive Bomb Threats, Students Sent Home Early
At least 10 schools in Ahmedabad received bomb threats on Wednesday, prompting authorities to send students home early and deploy police, fire department personnel and bomb detection and disposal teams to the affected campuses.
Most of the schools that received the threats are located in the western parts of the city. School authorities alerted the police after receiving the messages, following which security teams were dispatched to the campuses to conduct searches.
Zydus School in the Vejalpur area was among the institutions reportedly affected. The school released students ahead of the scheduled departure time as a precaution, while police and fire department personnel reached the campus.
Several schools also began informing parents about the early dispersal of students as security teams carried out checks on the premises.
Other schools reportedly named in connection with the threats include Bodakdev School for Children in Satellite, SGVP School in Chharodi, Sant Kabir School and Asia School on Drive-In Road.
Authorities were still assessing the exact number of schools affected as teams continued responding to the alerts. Details regarding the nature and source of the threats were awaited.
The latest incident comes amid a series of similar threats targeting educational institutions and public establishments in Ahmedabad in recent months.
In September, bomb threat emails were sent to 10 schools in the city, besides three courts and the Gujarat Assembly. Security checks at the locations did not uncover any suspicious objects and the threats were subsequently described as hoaxes.
Earlier in January, at least 16 schools in Ahmedabad district received bomb threat emails, triggering evacuations and searches by the Special Operations Group, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and dog squads. No suspicious objects were found during those searches.
The latest alerts have prompted a fresh security operation across Ahmedabad, with police and emergency response teams checking the affected school premises while authorities investigate the source and credibility of the threats.
