“You are a very bad man, you kill children” – Pete Edochie recalls child’s accusation over film role

Pete Edochie has recalled some unusual encounters with fans who struggled to separate the characters he portrayed in movies from his real-life personality.

He explained that some of his performances were so convincing that viewers sometimes treated him as though he was the same person as the villains he portrayed on screen.

Edochie recounted one incident that happened in a taxi after the release of Things Fall Apart. A woman who recognised him reportedly began confronting him over his actions in the movie. The actor said he was confused because he could not understand why the woman was angry with him.

According to Edochie, the woman spoke harshly to him and even told him that God would punish him for what he had done in the film. The situation became even more unusual when the taxi was caught in heavy rain.

The woman reportedly asked the driver to stop, got out of the vehicle and continued expressing her anger while standing in the rain. Edochie said the encounter left him wondering how deeply some viewers believed in the characters they saw him play.

The actor also shared another experience involving a young girl. During an event, a girl who was about 10 years old reportedly left her seat and approached him. She asked Edochie whether he was a good man.

When he answered yes, the young girl disagreed. She reportedly told him that he was a very bad man and accused him of killing children, apparently referring to one of the characters he had played in a movie.

Edochie said the interaction affected him so much that he decided to leave the event. He added that these were not the only occasions when people had judged him based on his movie roles, saying he had experienced several similar situations over the years.

The actor’s stories highlight how powerful performances can influence audiences. Edochie’s long career has seen him portray a wide range of characters, including respected figures and intimidating antagonists.
