World’s two oldest men share the same birthday

The world’s two oldest men have a remarkable connection: they were born on the same day, October 5, just one year apart.

Brazil’s João Marinho Neto, born on October 5, 1912, in Maranguape, is now 114 years old and recognised as the world’s oldest living man.

Australia’s Ken Weeks, born exactly one year later on October 5, 1913, in Grafton, New South Wales, is the second-oldest man.

The two centenarians exchanged birthday greetings this year, despite living around 14,000 kilometres apart.

Ken Weeks, who now lives in an aged-care home, was delighted to receive a birthday message from Neto.

He later recorded a video message to congratulate the Brazilian supercentenarian on his birthday as well.

Weeks has lived at the care facility since 2018. Before that, he spent more than a century in his hometown.

During World War II, he tried to join the Royal Australian Air Force but was unsuccessful.

Ken Weeks married Jean McAfee in 1941, and they had two sons.

She died in 1986, after which he continued to live independently for many years.

Despite his advanced age, Weeks remained physically active. His family says he was still doing his own shopping even after turning 100.

According to his granddaughter, Ken Weeks remains determined and wants to make life better for the people around him.
