(WCHS) — A woman is accused in a fatal shooting that followed an altercation in Wood County Monday afternoon, police said.

Samantha Deem, 33, has been charged with first-degree murder, according to a news release from the Parkersburg Police Department.

According to the release, law enforcement officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 800 block of Seventh Street where 35-year-old Jessica Lively, of Raleigh County had been shot in the chest.

Police said lifesaving efforts by EMS on scene were unsuccessful.

According to investigators, the shooting was prefaced by an argument between the two women.

Deem is awaiting court proceedings inside North Central Regional Jail.
