Trump Branded ‘Deranged And Dangerous’ After Claiming He Would Allow Iran To ‘Take Out’ 2 US Cities
The US president claimed Iran could attack Los Angeles and San Diego, both of which sit in the Democrat state of California, in retaliation for the war he launched with Israel at the end of February.
The shocking remarks came while Trump insisted the high cost of living in the US – triggered by the conflict in the Middle East – was a “small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe”.
Speaking to his supporters in Nebraska, he added: “They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego.”
But California governor Gavin Newsom replied on X: “After sending the National Guardian and Marines to occupy California, Donald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego.
Newsom’s press office account also wrote on social media: “Let’s be clear: The President is advocating for an attack on 10+ million US residents in two of America’s largest cities. This is not normal. None of this is. And we will continue to remind folks of that every day.”
Xavier Becerra, the Democratic nominee hoping to succeed Newsom, also said: “Thirteen million Californians call LA and San Diego counties home. Their lives are not a ‘small price to pay’ or a punchline for Donald Trump.”
The Democratic mayor of LA, Karen Bass, said Trump was making “irresponsible threats” which could “potentially compromise” the safety of America’s second-largest city.
“The role of the president is to protect the country, not to actively threaten it and encourage attacks on American lives,” she added.
The Democratic mayor of San Diego, Todd Gloria, had a similar message. He said his city was not meant to be “collateral damage” in the war.
“We are not expendable. And we are never a ‘small price to pay’. Keep our city our of your reckless war talk,” he added.
Trump told the rally that he is hoping to see a “tremendous victory” in the upcoming November midterm elections.
However, early predictions suggest his Republican Party might take a beating as Americans look to send the Trump administration a message about the rising cost of childcare, healthcare, food and gas.
