Today’s Headlines: Why I Will Rather Back Tinubu Than Atiku-Lawal, Saraki’s meeting with APC ‘G15’ chieftain fuels realignment in Kwara

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has explained why he would rather support President Bola Tinubu than Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Speaking during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, Lawal said Nigeria could collapse chaotically if Atiku becomes president in 2027.Recall that Lawal recently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, after resigning from the ADC following the emergence of Atiku as its presidential candidate.

“I’d rather go with Bola than Atiku because when Nigeria crashes with Bola, it might be an orderly crash, but with Atiku, it would be a chaotic one,” Lawal said.

The political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections in Kwara State has assumed a new dimension following a meeting between former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki.

Seriki popularly called ‘Amber’ is a prominent member of the aggrieved All Progressives Congress (APC) group known as the G15.

Saraki met Seriki at the headquarters of his Kursi Group in Abuja, where the former Senate President expressed interest in the company’s industrial and mining activities.

Although the meeting was publicly presented around business, its timing has generated political discussions in Kwara, coming amid renewed alignments involving the G15, The Otoge Progressives (TOP), the PDP and the emerging Rainbow Coalition.

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested five persons in three separate operations for allegedly vandalising and stealing public infrastructure in the state.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, identifying the vandalised infrastructure as a solar street light, road traffic signs and materials belonging to the Enugu State Water Corporation.

Ndukwe said on September 27, 2026, at about 8:30pm, operatives of the New Haven Police Division, acting on a tip-off, arrested two men, Wisdom Nuhu and Moses Jonathan, at a scrap dump in New Artisan Market, Enugu.

He said the suspects were allegedly negotiating the sale of a stolen solar street light when the police arrested them and recovered the item.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has given the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to pay outstanding salary arrears.

SSANU National President, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim, announced the ultimatum in a communique issued on Monday in Abuja, after the union’s 56th National Executive Council meeting.

Ibrahim said that the meeting, held at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, from September 30 to October 1, deliberated on workers’ welfare, university funding and implementation of the 2026 FGN/SSANU Agreement.

He said failure to meet the demand within the stipulated period would compel the union to embark on an indefinite strike without further notice.
