RUS 3-3 NGA: Players Responsible for Super Eagles Comeback Draw

According to a report by Flashscore on Tuesday October 6, 2026, Nigeria produced a dramatic late comeback to secure a 3-3 draw against Russia, with four Super Eagles players playing important roles in the fightback.

After falling 3-1 behind, Nigeria responded with goals from Osayande Edokpolor and Akor Adams to rescue a point in the closing stages. Several players stood out during the second half.

Akor Adams was one of Nigeria’s biggest contributors after coming on at half-time. The forward replaced Stephen Michael and immediately provided more attacking threat. He tested Russia’s goalkeeper with a dangerous assist for Umar Abubakar in the 91st minute. Adams then completed the comeback three minutes later when he received Abubakar’s pass during a fast break and fired a right-footed shot into the top-left corner. His late equaliser ensured Nigeria avoided defeat.

Edokpolor made a major impact after being introduced in the 70th minute. The substitute needed only eight minutes to make his mark as he pulled Nigeria back into the game. He received the opportunity on the left side of the box during a fast break and calmly finished into the bottom-right corner. His goal reduced the deficit to 3-2 and gave the Super Eagles renewed belief.

Abubakar was another important figure in Nigeria’s second-half revival. He replaced Moses Simon in the 70th minute and immediately added attacking energy. His effort in the 74th minute forced a save from Aleksandr Maksimenko. He then came close again in the 91st minute before his subsequent pass set up Adams for the equaliser. His involvement was crucial in Nigeria’s late comeback.

Despite conceding three goals, goalkeeper Samuel James made several important saves to keep Nigeria within reach of a comeback. He denied Aleksandr Sobolev just before half-time and produced another save in the 82nd minute to stop Aleksey Batrakov. Those interventions helped prevent Russia from extending their advantage and gave Nigeria an opportunity to mount their late response.
