Prepare for 6 Days of Morning and Afternoon Rainfall if You Live in These Regions

Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast rainfall in more than 40 counties between October 6 and October 12, 2026, with several areas expected to receive afternoon and night showers during the week.

The weekly forecast indicates that parts of Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Garissa, Homa Bay, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kericho, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Migori, Mombasa, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, Wajir and West Pokot could experience rainfall.

Afternoon showers are expected in several counties, including Embu, Garissa, Kajiado, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Mombasa, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi and Wajir.

The service has also forecast night showers in Bungoma, Busia, Embu, Homa Bay, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisumu, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Machakos, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Migori, Mombasa, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Siaya, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi, Vihiga and Wajir.

Residents of Isiolo, Samburu and Turkana can expect sunny intervals during the afternoons. Partly cloudy conditions are expected at night in Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Kisii, Garissa, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Makueni, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Taita Taveta and West Pokot.

Temperatures will vary significantly across the country during the forecast period. Mandera is expected to record a maximum temperature of 39°C, followed by Lodwar at 38°C and Wajir at 37°C. Kisumu could reach 36°C, while Garissa is expected to record a high of 34°C.

In the coastal region, Mombasa is forecast to reach a maximum of 31°C, while Nairobi could record 30°C. Nakuru is expected to reach 29°C, Marsabit 27°C and Eldoret 27°C.

The coldest nights are expected in Nyahururu, where temperatures could fall to 4°C. Eldoret could record a minimum of 8°C, while Nairobi and Nakuru are expected to drop to 12°C. Marsabit could record a low of 16°C.

The weather service also reviewed conditions recorded between September 28 and October 4. Rainfall during the period was reported in several counties, including Kisii, Kakamega, Marsabit, Busia and Bungoma.

Kisii recorded the highest seven-day rainfall total at 55.3mm at the Kisii Meteorological Station. The highest 24-hour rainfall total was 34.2mm, recorded at the automatic weather station at St. John’s Nyamagwa Boys High School in Kisii County on September 29.

Mandera recorded the highest daily maximum temperature during the review period, reaching 39°C on October 2. Nyahururu experienced the lowest daily minimum temperature, with temperatures falling to 1.8°C on September 30.

The service noted that rainfall amounts declined across the country when the September 28 to October 4 period was compared with the previous review period of September 21 to 27.

KMS classifies rainfall below 5mm in 24 hours as light, while amounts between 5mm and 20mm are considered moderate. Rainfall ranging from 21mm to 50mm is classified as heavy, while totals above 50mm are considered very heavy.
