Ondo Air Crash: I Don’t Think The Signal Is For Them To Land At Igbokoda — Governor Aiyedatiwa
The executive governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has clarified that he does not think the signal for the military aircraft that crash-landed in the state was for them to land at Igbokoda local government.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Aiyedatiwa made this clarification when he was asked about what information he has on ground regarding survivors and whether it was a helicopter.
He said, from information received, there are no survivors yet, noting they have not been able to speak to the naval captain leading the base, but his security advisor is in contact with the Amotekun leader in the local government and the local government chairman.
When asked whether there is a naval base around the area, he said the naval base has been there for years, just opposite on the other side where the aircraft crashed into the swamp. He said the naval base does not have a landing strip, so he does not think it would be the case.
He said information received indicates it is a monitoring surveillance aircraft of the Air Force, not a helicopter, because of the number of passengers, 25 passengers plus 7 crew totaling 32, were onboard. He said it is more like a mini-aircraft of about 30 seats.
Governor Aiyedatiwa clarified that there is no landing strip in Igbokoda at the naval base. He said there must have been some incident not yet known until they find the black box to know exactly what happened to the aircraft.
In his statement, “The information we got is that it’s an aircraft, a monitoring surveillance aircraft of the Air Force. Not just a helicopter per se, because of the number of passengers. 25 plus 7 crew. So, I don’t know of any helicopter that could carry 25 passengers.”
“So, it’s more like an aircraft, a mini-aircraft of about 30 seats or so. 25 passengers and 7 crew. That is about 32. So, there is no landing strip in Igbokoda. At the naval base. If it was a helicopter, yes, they could land anywhere on the field or any other place.”
“But, I don’t think the signal is for them to land at Igbokoda. There must have been some incident that we don’t know yet, until they are able to maybe find the black box, so-called, and be able to know exactly the problem.”
