NAF Releases Full List Of 25 People Killed In Ondo Plane Crash

According to a report by TVC News on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the Nigerian Air Force has released the identities of the 25 people who died after an ATR 42 aircraft, NAF 931, crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State.

The victims comprised five members of the aircraft’s crew and 20 passengers. The aircraft had been carrying out a routine mission between Benin and Lagos when the fatal accident occurred.

Squadron Leader MI Aburime, who was serving as flight captain, was among those killed. The other crew members were Squadron Leader AP Man-Ugwueje and Flight Lieutenant IS Bako, both co-pilots, alongside Warrant Officer Abubakar A and Corporal Uguru HC, who were aircraft technicians.

The passenger list released by the Air Force included Flight Lieutenant TL Lazarus, Flight Lieutenant M Akinloye, Flying Officer IM Adeshina, Master Warrant Officer Onwuka F, Master Warrant Officer Matini BA, Warrant Officer Nuhu FS, Flight Sergeant James RB and Flight Sergeant Mohammed AI.

Sergeant Ani AE, Sergeant Izibenikien SI, Sergeant Alafuka C and Sergeant Mbadugha AN were also among the passengers who lost their lives. The remaining victims were Lance Corporal Ugwuba FC, Lance Corporal Eledan GE, Mrs Ezeh Nneka, Godstmine Tarabina, Joy Micheal, Sunday Micheal, Ukeme David and Gideon Omotola.

Following the crash, the Nigerian Air Force immediately activated search-and-rescue operations. Relevant authorities were also involved in the effort to locate and account for those aboard the aircraft. The NAF later confirmed that the operation had found no survivor among the 25 people on board.

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, mourned the loss and conveyed condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the victims. He described the incident as a deeply painful moment for the Nigerian Air Force and the nation.

Aneke also assured the bereaved families that the Service would provide full support during the difficult period. He ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Air Force appealed to the public to avoid speculation and the spread of unverified information about the incident. It also called for respect for the privacy and dignity of the affected families.

A condolence register has been opened at NAF Headquarters in Abuja, while the Service said it would release verified updates as the investigation progresses.
