My Dad Was A Minister & Worked With Awolowo; My Twin Brother Is Kehinde, My Mom Is From Anambra–Anuku
Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has opened up about his family background, childhood and the whereabouts of some of his siblings, revealing that his father served as a minister during Nigeria’s First Republic and worked with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Anuku shared the details during an interview with the Honest Bunch Podcast on Glitch Africa Studios, where he spoke about his upbringing, his parents’ backgrounds and his twin brother.
The actor said he was born in Ibadan in 1962 and came from a family with a political background. According to him, his father was a minister in the First Republic government and served under the Action Group, a political party associated with Awolowo.
Anuku explained that his father was from Delta State, while his mother hailed from Anambra State. He also revealed that he was born a twin, with his twin brother named Kehinde.
Recalling his family history, Anuku said:
“Back in the day in 1962 in Ibadan my father was a First Republic minister with the Action Group, he worked with Awolowo. My mom is from Anambra and I am from Delta and I am a twin. Kehinde my twin brother is back in the United States, I left him there in Atlanta Georgia and a couple of my siblings too.”
The actor’s account provides a glimpse into the family and geographical background that shaped his early life. While his father’s roots are in Delta State, Anuku said his mother is from Anambra State, giving him family ties to different parts of Nigeria.
He also disclosed that his twin brother, Kehinde, currently lives in the United States. According to Anuku, he left Kehinde in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside some of his other siblings.
The revelation about his twin brother adds another personal dimension to the actor’s story, particularly as he reflected on the different places where members of his family currently reside.
Anuku also said that he currently lives in Abuja with his two children, indicating that his immediate family life is now centred in Nigeria despite some of his siblings being based abroad.
The First Republic period, which preceded the military coup of 1966, was a significant period in Nigeria’s political development, with the Action Group playing a prominent role in the Western Region.
Note: Anuku, however, the discussion was not simply about politics or history. It was also an opportunity to explain his family roots, reveal that he has a twin brother and provide insight into where some of his siblings now live
