Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has revealed details about his family background, including his father’s political history, his mother’s roots and the current whereabouts of his twin brother.

Anuku made the revelation during an interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast, where he spoke about his childhood, family and upbringing.

The actor said he was born in Ibadan in 1962 into a family with a strong political background. According to him, his father served as a minister during Nigeria’s First Republic and worked with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo under the Action Group.

Anuku explained that although his father was from Delta State, his mother hailed from Anambra State. He also disclosed that he was born a twin, revealing that his twin brother is named Kehinde.

Speaking about his family, Anuku said, “Back in the day in 1962 in Ibadan, my father was a First Republic minister with the Action Group, he worked with Awolowo. My mom is from Anambra and I am from Delta and I am a twin. Kehinde, my twin brother, is back in the United States. I left him there in Atlanta, Georgia, and a couple of my siblings too.”

The actor’s disclosure offered an insight into his family roots and the different parts of Nigeria connected to his background. It also revealed that some members of his family have settled abroad, particularly in the United States.

Anuku further stated that he currently lives in Abuja with his two children, while some of his siblings, including his twin brother, remain in the United States.

His comments have drawn attention to the lesser-known aspects of his personal history, particularly his connection to Nigeria’s First Republic through his father and his relationship with his twin brother.

The First Republic, which lasted until the 1966 military coup, was an important period in Nigeria’s political history, with Awolowo and the Action Group playing a significant role in the politics of the Western Region.
