Meet two of the scariest prisoners SA has ever had: Ananias Mathe and John mongrel

This is an awful account of John Mongrel and Annanias Mathe, two of the most dreaded villains in the annals of South African history. Because each of these people was previously responsible for a spate of horrible happenings, the very mention of their names continues to strike fear into the hearts of a sizeable number of humans. Each guy was a habitual criminal, having committed theft as well as homicide in the past.

Who exactly was this Annanias Mathe that everyone seemed so obsessed with?

The fact that Mathe Houdini had avoided capture on multiple times led the media to begin referring to him by the name of the famed magician Harry Houdini. Mathe Houdini was born and raised in the United States. Mathe was born in Mozambique and went on to become a citizen of that nation. The year 1976 was his birth year, and December 27, 2016 was the day he died away. His birth year was 1976. His escape in 2006 from Pretoria’s C-Max Prison, a maximum-security facility, was the event that first brought him to the attention of the public.

In November of 2006, Mathe was placed under arrest and charged with 51 counts of murder, attempted murder, rape, hijacking, and armed robbery. However, he evaded authorities immediately after his detention and was never located again. Since November 2006, authorities were looking for Mathe in connection with a series of homicidal incidents. He was successful in achieving this goal by covering his entire body with petroleum jelly and fleeing through a window that was 20 centimeters by 60 centimeters. However, this was not the first time that Mathe had successfully evaded capture by authorities. Mathe had done it previously. In addition to that, he managed to flee the country in the year 2005.

After his subsequent escape, authorities all over the world began searching for him. On December 4, 2006, he was ultimately apprehended with the use of a tracking device that had been seized from one of Craighall’s stolen vehicles.

Mathe was found guilty on 67 of the 71 charges he was facing, including attempted murder, aggravated rape, attempted aggravated rape, robbery, and theft. Mathe was also charged with aggravated rape and attempted aggravated rape. Due to the severity of his crime, the judge sentenced him to an imprisonment term that may last somewhere between 43 and 54 years. Six of the jail wardens who had been involved in his most recent attempt to break out of jail have been terminated from their positions.

Constipation and urine retention were contributing factors in Mathe’s death on December 27, 2016, in the King Edward VIII hospital. Mathe’s passing came as a result of these health conditions.

Who precisely was John Mongrel, and what exactly was his name and identity?

John Mongrel was the moniker of the most feared inmate in South African prisons at the time. In Pollsmoor prison, he was the commander of the 28’s gang and was notorious for his cruel management style. When he first started going to Pollsmoor, he was only 14 years old, and he had recently begun working there. Within the same year, he initiated himself into the 28’s by conducting the initiation process of stabbing a fellow inmate in the heart. This marked his membership in the 28’s.

At the Pollsmoor prison, Mongrel held absolute power over the other inmates. Those who speak out against him are stabbed to death, and he is responsible for the raping of a significant number of male victims. It is thought that Mongrel was responsible for the deaths of nearly a thousand prisoners in Pollsmoor, either directly or through ordering the execution of another inmate. These fatalities can be broken down into two categories: direct and indirect.

As a direct result of the publicity that he received as a result of being interviewed by Ross Kemp for a series about gangs, he catapulted to global celebrity. On the recording, Kemp can be heard describing Mongrel as the most frightening person he has ever met in his life. Kemp proceeded by stating, “The smell of his breath will stay with me for a very long time; it smelled like decomposing roadkill.”

During the course of the conversation, he revealed that razor blades were employed in the process of cutting his tattoos into his skin. Additionally, he claimed that he never slept with the same individual for more than three weeks at a stretch. He added that there was never a situation in which he slept with the same individual on consecutive nights.

Mongrel passed away in 2014, after residing in Pollsmoor for the preceding thirty years before his death.
