Man shot during attempted ATM robbery in Lumberton, police say

LUMBERTON, N.C. (WBTW)– A man was shot during an attempted robbery in Lumberton on Saturday, according to the police department.

At around 6:35 p.m., the Lumberton Police responded to reports of a shooting at 500 N. Pine Street. When they arrived, they found two people who were victims of an attempted robbery.

The two individuals were attempting to use the ATM located at Truist Bank. Then, two men approached the victims’ vehicle and held them at gunpoint, Sergeant David B. Harrell says.

The driver of the vehicle then attempted to drive away, but the two men shot into their vehicle, Harrell says. The driver was grazed and drove himself to a hospital, where his injuries were treated.

The unknown subjects were described as males wearing face coverings. The victim’s vehicle and surrounding area were processed for evidence.

Lumberton police are still investigating this case and are attempting to locate surveillance footage to aid them. Anyone with information regarding this incident has been asked to contact Detective David Bullock at 910-671-3845.
