An open trench dug for drainage works along Kimbo-Matangi Road in Theta, Juja Constituency, Kiambu County, ahead of the planned tarmacking of the road, on October 6, 2026/MOSES MWANGIThe pace of drainage works along Kimbo-Matangi Road in Theta, Juja Constituency, Kiambu County, has raised safety concerns as El Nino rains are anticipated.
Open trenches and manholes have been left along sections of the road as county authorities undertake drainage works ahead of plans to tarmac the road.
A wooden bridge has been placed across some of the open trenches to allow pedestrians to cross, while other sections remain exposed to road users.
The five-kilometre road section has been a challenge for motorists, particularly during rainy weather, with residents raising concerns over its condition in recent months.
County authorities say the drainage system is being repaired before the road is tarmacked following public outcry from residents.
With the rains approaching, residents and motorists face the prospect of further difficulties if the drainage works are not completed in time.
