Police said the motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related. The two men were declared dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to a medical facility for treatment.
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said Steenberg police are investigating the shooting, which happened at about 8.20am.
Twigg explained: “Steenberg police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Tuesday morning, 6 October 2026, at about 8:20, in Muir Court, Depsiton Crescent, Lavender Hill, which claimed the lives of two adult males and left an adult female wounded.
“The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related.
“The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. Steenberg detectives are investigating murder and attempted murder cases.”
A resident who asked not to be named said the shooting happened while learners were making their way to school and described it as a drive-by shooting.
The local wysed: “The shooting happened at around 7.30am while some learners were still making their way to school.
“Apparently it was a drive-by shooting. The shooting is gang-related as the victims are apparently members of the Mongrels gang.
“These ouens time mekaar so when they started shooting, the woman had to be in the way. Thankfully, she is still alive; she was shot in the arm.
“Once the scene is cleared and police are gone, then they become watchdogs. Everyone who enters the area is watched because they don’t know who shot and can’t trust any car. They vang ‘n pos and they are on the uitkyk. So now we can expect retaliation.”
Another resident said the shooting had added to the tension in an area where violence has become a daily reality.
The inwoner added: “Muir Court is a very busy court, as it is being operated and people are always in and out as there is tension between the courts…
“This is nothing new; it is what we deal with every day and I don’t think it is going to change any time soon.”
