Cyril Ramaphosa Earns R3.5 Million a Year While Pitso Mosimane Reportedly Takes Home R10 Million

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s reported annual salary of about R3.5 million has sparked comparisons with the reported R10 million-a-year package of Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane.

The figures have drawn attention online, with football supporters highlighting the striking difference between the remuneration of the country’s president and that of the coach tasked with leading South Africa’s national football team.

Ramaphosa’s reported annual remuneration places his monthly earnings at roughly R291,000, while Mosimane’s reported R10 million annual package works out to approximately R833,000 per month.

That means Mosimane’s reported annual earnings are almost three times those of the president, a comparison that has generated plenty of debate and humour among South Africans.

Mosimane, who returned to lead Bafana Bafana, is one of Africa’s most decorated coaches. His reputation was strengthened during his successful spells with Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he won major continental honours.

His appointment comes with significant expectations as South Africa looks to build a competitive national team capable of challenging for major African and international honours.

Ramaphosa, meanwhile, serves as South Africa’s head of state and government, carrying responsibility for the country’s political leadership and executive administration.

While the two positions are vastly different, the reported salary comparison has nevertheless caught the public’s imagination.

The figures also underline how highly top football coaching talent can be valued, particularly when a coach has a proven record at continental level.

For football fans, the reaction has been simple: politics may run the country, but football can apparently pay the bigger monthly cheque.

Salary figures should be treated as reported figures, as remuneration packages can include different benefits, allowances and performance-related components.
