Chiefs Star Finally Reveals Why He Chose Amakhosi After Sundowns Shock Exit

The rumored transfer of winger Monnapule Saleng to Kaizer Chiefs has become a hot topic in South African football, with many believing that Saleng is looking to start over following a rough patch with Mamelodi Sundowns.Saleng may sign a free agent deal with the Soweto giants Chiefs after allegedly agreeing to a three-year pre-contract with them, according to Sports With Daily News.

The transfer should still be considered unconfirmed because, as of publication, Kaizer Chiefs had not formally confirmed the reported agreement.Following a difficult patch in his career, Saleng has reportedly made a positive development. The attacker had a breakout season with Orlando Pirates before joining Sundowns in January 2026. He had previously played for Orbit College. Nevertheless, he was supposedly not given many chances at Chloorkop, and things got worse when he was removed from the usual first-team setup.Sports With Daily News reported on September 28 that Saleng had discussed his thoughts and feelings regarding his time at Sundowns as well as his motivations for wanting to join the Chiefs.

Because no independent primary interview source was able to confirm the player’s entire remarks, we must treat them as reported claims rather than Saleng’s confirmed statements. The winger would still feel a personal connection to a transfer to the Chiefs. Despite making a name for himself at Orlando Pirates, the fierce Soweto rivals of Kaizer Chiefs, Saleng admitted in an interview with iDiski Times in 2021 that he was a lifelong supporter of the former in his youth.

The Chiefs are supposedly bringing in Saleng to bolster their attack and add some experience to the roster as they begin a rebuilding process under head coach Fernando Da Cruz. Before marking the reported three-year agreement as finalized, supporters should await official confirmation from either the Chiefs or the player.
