AirPods 4 take a lighter approach with a semi-open fit that, in our experience, feels relaxed and comfortable even during long listening sessions. That makes them a smart pick if you’ve never gotten along with rubber eartips. Despite the open design, they still offer great listening, plus the battery life holds up well at up to five hours per charge, with 25 more hours tucked away in the case.

Once they’re settled in, they stay comfortable for hours, and the rest of the package delivers too: excellent noise cancellation, a natural-sounding transparency mode, clear call quality and solid battery life. The controls are a highlight as well, letting you swipe along either stem to change the volume without reaching for your phone.

They offer active noise cancellation to tune out a noisy commute, plus Transparency mode for when you need to hear what’s going on around you. Spatial Audio makes music and movies feel more immersive, and the MagSafe case means you can simply drop them on a wireless charger.

If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, pairing takes seconds. You can listen wirelessly over Bluetooth or plug in with the included cables, which can give you a boost in sound quality in certain apps. Noise cancellation and a transparency mode round things out, so you can tune out the world or let it back in whenever you need.
