Akosua Ago Aboagye Resigns from “Despite Media” After 20 Years

Veteran Ghanaian broadcaster Akosua Ago Aboagye has announced her departure from Despite Media, ending a distinguished 20-year association with one of Ghana’s leading media groups.

In an emotional message shared on Facebook, Akosua expressed gratitude to the management and staff of Despite Media, as well as the listeners and viewers who supported her throughout her long broadcasting career.

She acknowledged that the decision to leave was not an easy one, given the many years she had spent with the organization and the professional relationships she had built. However, she said she had reached a point where moving on and exploring fresh opportunities was the right decision for her career.

Akosua also thanked her audience for their unwavering support and loyalty over the years, crediting their encouragement as an important part of her journey. She reflected on the experiences, challenges and lessons that shaped her career and suggested that her departure would mark the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end of her work in the media industry.

She further hinted that she has new projects in the pipeline, generating anticipation among her followers about what she plans to pursue next.

Akosua became a familiar voice to Ghanaian audiences through her years with Peace FM and Okay FM, both part of the Despite Media Group. Her career, however, began at Otec FM in Kumasi, where she established herself as one of the early female football commentators in Ghana before transitioning further into mainstream radio broadcasting.

Her influence has also extended beyond traditional journalism. Through her Woman2Woman initiative, she has promoted female empowerment by encouraging women to build confidence, recognize their abilities and pursue personal development.

Her two decades in broadcasting have earned her recognition and respect within Ghana’s media industry, while her advocacy work has expanded her impact beyond the newsroom and radio studio.

As she closes a significant chapter at Despite Media, attention is now turning to her next move, with many of her colleagues, followers and industry observers looking forward to the new projects she has indicated are on the horizon.
