Accident At Sofoline Flyover Leaves Four Injured

According to a report by myjoyonline on 6th October, 2026, a crash involving three vehicles at the Sofoline Interchange flyover in Kumasi has left four people seriously injured, among them a one-and-a-half-year-old baby.

The injured were rushed to Suntreso Government Hospital by passersby and other motorists for emergency care. The three vehicles involved—a commercial mini-bus, a Toyota Corolla and a motorised tricycle popularly called Pragia—were badly damaged.

The wreckage caused a temporary gridlock on the busy Sofoline-Abuakwa stretch, until personnel from the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) arrived to manage traffic and tow the vehicles away. Police have since begun investigations.

According to Kwabena Boahen, the driver of the mini-bus, he was travelling from Goaso to Kejetia when the accident happened. He said that while descending the Sofoline flyover towards Kejetia, he applied the brakes and discovered they had failed.

“While descending the flyover, I stepped on the brake and realised it had failed. I tried my best to control the vehicle but unfortunately could not,” Mr. Boahen recounted.

The bus lost control, sped down the slope and slammed into the Toyota Corolla and the Pragia ahead of it. Mr. Boahen said his bus was carrying 13 passengers, but none of them was hurt. No one in the Toyota Corolla was injured either.

An eyewitness at the scene said the Pragia was carrying four people, including its driver and a baby about one and a half years old, and all of them sustained injuries of varying degrees.

“I was standing by the roadside when I saw the Stanbic bus suffer brake failure and crash into a Toyota Corolla and a motorized tricycle, popularly known as a Pragia. There were 4 people in the Pragia, including the driver and a baby about one and a half years old. All of them sustained injuries,” an eyewitness who spoke at the scene said.
