“We Won’t Touch His Wealth” Chivayo’s Family Reveals Who Will Get His Multi-Billion Fortune
The family of Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has spoken about the future of his vast estate following his death in a helicopter crash, revealing that the late businessman had already made his wishes known regarding his wealth.
Chivayo died on Wednesday, September 30, when the helicopter he was travelling in crashed near Marondera, Zimbabwe. His wife, Lucy Muteke, and several other passengers also died in the tragic accident.
As relatives, friends and prominent figures gathered to mourn the businessman, questions emerged over what would happen to the wealth he accumulated during his lifetime.
On Friday, October 2, Chivayo’s family spokesperson and uncle, Herbert Chivayo, addressed mourners at the late businessman’s Harare mansion.
According to Herbert, Chivayo had been very clear about who he wanted to benefit from his wealth if he died.
The businessman had reportedly expressed his desire for the largest share of his estate to go to his children, saying he wanted them to grow up remembering him.
“When he was alive, he would say, ‘Dad, if I die, ensure that my children get most of my wealth so that they will grow up to remember me,’” Herbert said.»
The family spokesperson also appeared to rule out a potential contest over the estate from members of the wider Chivayo family.
Herbert maintained that the children were the rightful beneficiaries of their father’s wealth and insisted that relatives had no intention of pursuing a share of the estate.
“We, the Chivayos, are not greedy to go after a late family member’s hard-earned wealth. These kids are the rightful beneficiaries of their father’s estate, and they will get everything,” he said.
The remarks have offered an early indication of how Chivayo’s multi-billion wealth could be handled, with his children expected to remain at the centre of the estate.
Chivayo was widely known for his lavish lifestyle, major business interests and connections with influential figures. His sudden death has therefore left behind a substantial estate whose management will attract considerable attention in the days ahead.
Funeral arrangements for Chivayo and his wife were still being finalised at the time of reporting.
