The footage, reportedly recorded by a passenger on the bus, shows what appears to be an unmarked van travelling in front of the bus with its hazard lights flashing.

According to the source of the video, the occupants of the van were attempting to stop the bus, but the bus driver allegedly feared that the vehicle could be linked to a robbery and continued driving.

The video shows the van slowing down several times in an apparent attempt to force the bus to stop. However, the bus continues behind it.

At one point, a passenger in the van appears to draw a firearm and fire a shot into the air before pointing the weapon towards the bus and firing again.

According to the footage, the shots do not appear to strike the bus.

The situation then takes another dangerous turn when the van slows down again. The bus appears to collide with the rear of the vehicle, pushing it off the roadway before the bus continues along the N11.

SA Trucker could not immediately establish the identity of the van, whether it was in fact a police vehicle, what prompted the attempted stop, or what happened to its occupants after the collision.

It is also unclear whether the bus was eventually stopped further along the route.

The footage has sparked strong reactions online, with many people raising concerns about the safety of other motorists during the incident.

Others pointed out that the confrontation could easily have ended in a serious, potentially multi-casualty crash, particularly given the presence of a fully loaded passenger bus and other road users on the N11.

There are also questions around the circumstances surrounding the firearm being discharged and whether the occupants of the van were acting in an official capacity.
