Unexpected Twist in Chivayo’s Death as Owner of Helicopter That Killed Him Is Finally Revealed
Wicknell Chivayo’s death has taken an unexpected turn after the owner of the helicopter that crashed and killed him was finally identified.
New information shows that the Zimbabwean businessman did not own the aircraft involved in the fatal accident that also claimed the lives of his wife Lucy Muteke and three other people. The helicopter belonged to businessman Themba Nkatazo and had been hired by Chivayo through Nkatazo’s company, Sky Helicopters.
The revelation came during the burial of Captain Calvin Tafirei Soda, one of the pilots who died in the crash.
During Soda’s burial in Chiredzi, Masvingo, on Sunday, October 4, Youth Minister Tino Machakaire introduced Nkatazo to mourners.
Nkatazo is the founder and chief executive of Valley Seeds Private Limited, an agricultural company.
He also owns Sky Helicopters, which provides private helicopter services to wealthy individuals, politicians, business executives and other prominent clients.
Chivayo was reportedly one of the company’s clients and had hired the helicopter before the accident. The crash occurred on September 30, killing Chivayo, Lucy, her personal assistant, and pilots Captain Soda and Captain Courage Mutavirwa.
The two pilots were later laid to rest as their families and friends paid their final respects.
The disclosure has attracted attention because Chivayo was widely associated with a luxurious lifestyle and often displayed expensive cars, homes and other high-value possessions.
Some Zimbabweans have since questioned whether other costly items linked to the businessman were also rented or obtained through other arrangements.
The development has added a new angle to the discussion surrounding Chivayo’s wealth.
Questions are now being raised about how much of the property and luxury lifestyle associated with him was actually owned by the businessman.
The revelation is likely to keep public interest in Chivayo’s financial life alive as more details surrounding his death and the assets linked to him continue to emerge.
