Truth About Ghana Jollof Case Finally Exposed
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, lead counsel for Salomey Awiti Baffoe, has described the legal proceedings surrounding the “Ghana Jollof” case as a painful and challenging experience for everyone involved.
According to the lawyer, the case has placed considerable emotional pressure on the defence team, with the prolonged proceedings taking a toll beyond the courtroom.
Baffour Awuah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, made the remarks as the case involving his client continues to generate significant public interest.
Salomey Baffoe, a 40-year-old senior nursing officer and mother of three, is facing a charge of abetment of the publication of false news in connection with the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account. She has denied the allegation and pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution has accused Baffoe of serving as a link between investigators’ alleged operator of the account, Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, and the dissemination of content associated with the platform.
Her defence team, however, has rejected aspects of the prosecution’s allegations and continues to maintain her innocence.
The proceedings have also been accompanied by developments involving Baffoe’s legal team. On September 23, Baffour Awuah became involved in a confrontation with officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after appearing in court for his client’s bail application.
EOCO subsequently confirmed that its officers had sought to arrest the MP over an investigation. Baffour Awuah contested the circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest and linked the matter to his previous law firm.
Baffoe’s initial attempt to secure bail was unsuccessful. On September 24, the High Court in Accra declined the application, citing concerns relating to the ongoing cyber-related investigations and potential interference with the inquiry.
The case took a different turn on October 5 when the Adenta Circuit Court granted Baffoe bail in the sum of GH¢100,000.
The court further required her to provide two sureties, both of whom must be civil servants earning not less than GH¢3,000 monthly. Additional reporting conditions were also imposed as part of the bail terms.
Following the ruling, Baffour Awuah welcomed the decision and expressed hope that his client would be able to return to her family, particularly her three children.
For the defence, the bail ruling provides some relief after weeks of detention and multiple court appearances. However, the criminal proceedings themselves remain ongoing.
The allegations against Baffoe have not yet been determined by the court, and she remains entitled to the presumption of innocence until the matter is finally decided.
