Traveller reveals five things everyone should do before they die

Lucas Brancatisano has visited 60 countries – and there are five things he believes every traveller should experience before they die.
The 29-year-old, from Melbourne, spent his life savings on a trip of a lifetime – travelling around the globe to popular tourist spots and places off the beaten track.
He began travelling solo across Latin America for 10 months before spending almost another year exploring Europe, Asia and Africa with his brother and housemates.
After spending years abroad exploring the world, the backpacker said there are bucket-list experiences travellers should have at least once in their life.
‘Here are five travel experiences to try before you die,’ he suggested in his video.
One of the first things he recommends is taking a solo trip to Latin America.
‘This is the one that will fundamentally change your life the most,’ Lucas said.
‘Spend some time in Central America, South America, and you’ll find out why everyone keeps wanting to come back to this place. It’s the energy and the vibe of this whole entire thing.
‘If you can go solo, absolutely do it, immerse yourself in the experience. If not, go with a friend, you’ll have such a good time. It’s one of the best places on this earth.’
Lucas, who runs a travel community called Aussies In, urged everyone to embark on a trip-of-a-lifetime with their siblings.
‘You only get so much time where you can go and travel with your siblings,’ he said.
‘If you have a month or two weeks, go somewhere far and wide. Get lots of photos, work things out together and that experience will bond you for the rest of time.
‘I travelled with my brother last year for nine months, it was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life, and you should do it once with your sibling too.
He suggested spending time exploring your own country to discover places you never knew existed.
‘Everyone often overlooks this because they live in these countries and they’re like, “I’m from there.” But going and taking time to explore the beautiful place that they’re from,’ he said.
‘I spent time driving around Australia many years ago. One of the coolest things I’ve ever done. It’s like seeing your backyard. We went to the Outback, we went to the Northern Territory, Queensland and NSW – it was amazing.
‘I highly recommend if you’re from Europe or Asia, anywhere, go and explore the domestic tourism you have and find out how beautiful your country is.’
One of the things he believes everyone should do in their lifetime is move away from the place they grew up to experience living somewhere different, even if it’s within the same country.
‘Live outside your hometown, this one is so important for your growth and development,’ Lucas said.
‘As soon as you leave your hometown, you will find out what is possible for the life that you can have, and just seeing the opportunities that will unfold as you go and explore.
‘Your hometown grows you in one way, you will find out how much you can grow in another way when you leave.’
‘Go overseas if you can, otherwise live interstate, just go and see what’s possible in your own life,’ he added.
Finally, Lucas said you should consider visiting 30 countries before you turn 30.
‘Travel gets a lot harder when you get older because there’s responsibilities and things to pay for and life gets busy,’ he said.
‘Make sure you factor in going to these places and going to see as many countries as you can.
‘Spending money on stuff that will give you dividends on experience and memories rather than material possessions.’
His video has been viewed more than 9,000 times, with some travellers agreeing with his list of experiences.
‘Did this at 21 – favourite countries: Argentina and Colombia. I grew up in New Zealand doing camping trips and road trips with my parents. Moved to another city at 18, to London at 24, to Australia at 28, back to London at 29. I just turned 30 and have done around 45 countries,’ one said, adding that she’s an only child.
‘I’ve been travelling Latin America this year and I’m not sure I like it as much as Southeast Asia. I’m having a great time when I’m here but for me, travelling is about how a place makes you feel and I feel most at peace during my time in SE Asia. I still need to see Central America so maybe I’ll find it there,’ another shared.
