Selena Gomez’s makeup artist shares 5 tricks to slim a round face

Round face shapes already have inherently soft, youthful features, but a little bit of skillful makeup application can introduce subtle contour and dimension to the face without the risk of stark lines. Vanngo’s method emphasizes highlighting the center of the face while creating gradual, blended shadows around the edges.

Vanngo, who was behind this look, says he used five guiding principles that can be used to create a more balanced, lifted appearance.

Dual-Shade Foundation Match: “The key to getting a face to look great during any time of year is to carry two shades of the same foundation,” Vanngo says. Mixing precise proportions of the shades creates a perfect match year-round that looks more natural than a flat, mask-like face.

Center Concealer Application: Under-eye concealer, about two shades lighter than your face, can be applied to the nose, mouth corners, and the center of your chin. Your eyes will gravitate towards the lighter area, and these regions’ eyes will be drawn inward, resulting in the appearance of more depth and length.

Soft Perimeter Contour: Cream products are used to keep the area beneath the cheek bones, along the jawline and hairline light and naturally curved, as opposed to contour lines of high shadow and harsh edges. This creates depth and natural illusion, when painted with bright studio lighting.

Adding Warmth with Powder Bronzer: Simply dust your preferred powder bronzer over the areas you have cream contoured for a double definition and warmth.

Blush for High-Cheekbone Define: When a sweep of blush is applied a little higher on the cheekbones, it instantly lifts the entire face. Apply blush closer to the apples of the cheeks for a softer, more youthful look for a more natural finish.
