Ruto Lands in Hot Soup After 17 People Die in Fatal Road Accident as This Is Revealed – Details
Dr. Peter Mbae has criticized President William Ruto’s government following the tragic road accident in Salama that resulted in the deaths of 17 Catholic pilgrims.
The victims were part of St. Mathias Mulumba Catholic Church from Mikindani Parish, en route to the National Shrine in Subukia, Nakuru County for National Prayer Day when the accident occurred early Saturday morning on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
Mbae attributed the deadly incident to government failures and expressed concern as the nation mourns the victims and seeks answers regarding road safety.
The accident involved multiple vehicles, with a lorry reportedly colliding with another truck while trying to overtake, resulting in a chain reaction that affected the vehicle carrying the pilgrims. Police confirmed that all 17 victims died at the scene.
The National Transport and Safety Authority has initiated an investigation to determine the factors contributing to the collision, including vehicle safety and road conditions.
Davis Chirchir, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and urged motorists to be more cautious, particularly about dangerous overtaking and ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy.
The Salama segment of the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway has been noted as a dangerous area, with past recommendations for safety improvements.
President Ruto has extended his sympathies to the victims’ families, friends, and the broader Catholic community.
Mbae’s comments introduce a political aspect to this tragedy as inquiries proceed; however, the precise cause of the accident and accountability will be clarified through these investigations.
For many Kenyans, the primary focus remains on the loss of 17 lives and the urgent need to enhance road safety to prevent similar incidents in the future.
