Roop Kumar Rathod Revisits CSMT, Rediscovers the Joy of Train Travel After Years
Veteran singer and composer Roop Kumar Rathod recently revisited the nostalgia of train travel during a visit to Mumbai’s iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), describing the experience as one that still holds a special charm.
Sharing a glimpse of his visit on social media, Rathod reflected on the warmth and joy associated with travelling by train and said some experiences simply cannot be replaced.
Sharing a video from CSMT, he wrote, “Years later, back at CSMT… and suddenly, the old train-travel magic feels just the same. Iska maza hi kuch aur hai!”
The video shows Rathod taking in the atmosphere at the historic railway station. He pans the camera across the CSMT premises and platform, capturing the bustle of passengers and railway workers.
A stationary train can also be seen at the platform, while Rathod stands close to it, taking in the familiar sights and sounds of Mumbai’s railway network and reminiscing about his earlier train journeys.
On the professional front, Rathod has enjoyed a career spanning more than three decades and comes from a distinguished musical family.
Before establishing himself as a playback singer, he was an accomplished tabla player and accompanied several celebrated ghazal singers. He later moved towards singing and entered the Hindi film industry in the early 1990s.
His major breakthrough came with “Sandese Aate Hain” from Border in 1997, which he sang with Sonu Nigam.
He subsequently lent his voice to several memorable film songs, including “Toh Chalun” from Border, “Zindagi Maut Na Ban Jaaye” from Sarfarosh, “Tere Liye” from Veer-Zaara, “Maula Mere Maula” from Anwar, “Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai” from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and “O Saiyyan” from Agneepath.
Apart from playback singing, Rathod has established a strong identity as a ghazal and Sufi singer and has collaborated with several prominent musicians.
He has also frequently performed with his wife, singer Sonali Rathod. The couple have collaborated on various musical projects, including the Sufi album Kalma.
