President Museveni’s Son Declares His Preferred Kenyan Presidential Candidate

The UPDF chief also suggested that Speaker Wetang’ula would be his envoy in Kenya.

Uganda’s military chief, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has declared his support for President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.

He also suggested National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula would be his envoy in Kenya.

The chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) made the announcement in a post on X on Friday evening, October 2.

“Now that I have enough Batume in Uganda, I appoint Rt. Honourable Moses Wetangula as my Mutume in Kenya. He will support my President William Ruto’s re-election. Tunataka Second Term,” he wrote.

Muhoozi, who is a son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and also the chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, suggested that Wetang’ula would act as his representative in Kenya and rally support for the president’s bid for a second term.

Ruto is believed to be close to Muhoozi’s father, the link seeming to net the military boss, who is believed to be the likely successor of his father, who has led Uganda for four decades.

Muhoozi has a history of sparking debate over his commentaries on matters pertinent to Kenya.

He recently took responsibility for denying entry to PLP leader Martha Karua.

In a social media post, he stated that he personally ordered the Kenyan lawyer’s deportation and ban from Uganda, stressing that the decision was his alone and not his father’s.

Karua, who had been flying to Uganda as part of Kizza Besigye’s legal team, vowed to sue Ugandan immigration officers after they confiscated her two mobile phones at Entebbe International Airport.

She recounted confronting the principal immigration officer over the seizure, describing how one device was taken while she was left in a room, and the second was snatched shortly after she began using it.

Karua explained that the officers held onto her phones for nearly three and a half hours, which she believes gave them ample time to access and extract sensitive information.

As she boarded a Kenya Airways flight to Nairobi, one officer attempted to return the devices, but Karua refused, insisting they were compromised.

She maintained that the prolonged detention of the phones left her convinced they had been tampered with, and she declared she would pursue legal action against the Ugandan authorities.
