Plane Crash:We Saw No Survivor At The Scene; They Found ID Cards & Military Uniforms There—Oripelaye
The aftermath of an aircraft accident in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, has raised concern over the fate of those who may have been aboard the aircraft.
Maurice Oripelaye, who heads the local government, said authorities moved into action after receiving information about the incident. Speaking during an interview with TVC, he explained that security personnel, emergency responders and other relevant bodies were involved in efforts to determine what happened at the location.
The search was conducted in a swamp, making access to the area difficult. According to Oripelaye, personnel involved in the operation went through the available sections of the crash location in an attempt to locate anyone who might have survived.
However, the local government chairman said the operation did not produce the outcome rescuers had hoped for, as no survivor had been located during the search.
Investigators and search personnel also came across items at the scene that appeared to be associated with military personnel. Oripelaye said identification cards and military uniforms were among the materials recovered from the area.
He further disclosed that information from what he described as a dependable source indicated that the aircraft was operated by the Nigerian Air Force.
Describing what officials encountered during the operation, Oripelaye said: “Unfortunately we combed every nooks and cranny of the swamp area where this incident happened, we have not been able to locate any survivor. At the scene of the event they have been able to identify some ID Cards and military uniforms. But it has been confirmed from a reliable source that the aircraft belongs to the Nigerian Air Force”
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain a subject of investigation. While the materials recovered from the location point towards the involvement of military personnel, further official findings would be necessary to establish the identities of those aboard and what caused the aircraft to come down.
