Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye agree to activate Makkah Alliance defence commitments
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye have agreed to put the Makkah Alliance for Defence’s collective defence commitments into immediate effect, including arrangements for the rapid deployment of designated military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia.
The decision was reached on Monday during an emergency session of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defence in Riyadh.
The committee reviewed the results of political and military consultations held before the meeting and endorsed recommendations aimed at improving the alliance’s joint response to emerging regional security threats.

According to a joint statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the three countries agreed to take the necessary measures to make the agreed military forces and capabilities available and ensure their swift deployment in the Kingdom.

The statement said any deployment would be carried out under the arrangements already approved and in line with the national laws of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.

The measure is aimed at improving military preparedness and coordination while expanding the three countries’ collective ability to respond to and counter security threats.
The decision represents a move from the alliance’s agreed defence framework towards its practical implementation under the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence. The three countries maintained that the security of one member is an essential part of the collective security of all three.
According to the statement, putting the agreement into practical effect reflects the countries’ commitment to collective defence, enhances deterrence and reinforces their resolve to safeguard their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with the agreement.

The development comes amid growing security concerns in Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting cities as well as civilian and economic infrastructure.
The committee condemned what it described as attempts to target Makkah and Madinah and also denounced the continuing attacks against Saudi territory. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye reiterated their opposition to any attack or threat directed at the Kingdom’s security and territorial integrity.
Pakistan and Turkiye also praised the vigilance and preparedness of the Saudi Armed Forces, commending their professionalism and competence in dealing with threats and attacks and protecting the Kingdom’s security and territorial integrity.

Senior political and military officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye attended the emergency meeting as members of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee.
The session also marked progress in establishing the alliance’s institutional structure. The committee appointed Pakistan’s Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood (Ret.) as its first Secretary-General for a three-year term, according to the joint statement.
The three countries welcomed the appointment and expressed confidence that he would contribute to advancing the alliance and achieving its stated objectives.
The Makkah Alliance was formed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye as a platform for collective defence and closer security cooperation. The latest meeting in Riyadh focused on converting those commitments into operational arrangements amid the security challenges confronting the Kingdom.
Under the committee’s decision, the agreed military capabilities are to be made available and deployed rapidly in Saudi Arabia, subject to the approved arrangements and the national legislation of each participating country.
The decision also gives greater importance to military integration, coordinated preparedness and joint readiness as the alliance moves towards developing its operational framework.
