ODM’s Oburu Thrown Under The Bus as Luo Council of Elders Crown Winnie For Raila’s Political Mantle

A major political shift has unfolded in Nyanza following the decision by the Luo Council of Elders to symbolically crown Winnie Odinga as the custodian of her late father’s political legacy.

The endorsement has sent strong shockwaves through the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), essentially bypassing current party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga during a critical moment.

With Oburu currently seeking treatment in the United Kingdom, political dynamics back home have accelerated rapidly.

The elders have chosen to crown Winnie at the family’s ancestral home in Bondo, presenting her as the natural heir to Raila Odinga’s legacy.

This symbolic gesture has effectively sidelined the ailing ODM boss, as community leaders have shifted their focus toward fresh, youth-driven leadership.

Political analysts have interpreted the move as a deliberate strategy to preserve the family’s political clout.

While party insiders have continued to manage official operations, the traditional backing from the Luo Council of Elders has conferred immense cultural and moral authority upon Winnie.

She has accepted the mantle with determination, expressing her readiness to serve the community and carry forward her father’s vision.

This sudden transition has created a clear divide within the party’s rank and file. Supporters of the traditional hierarchy have raised concerns over the swift realignment, yet grassroots enthusiasm for Winnie has continued to grow steadily.

The elders have made their stance clear, prioritizing legacy continuity over party seniority. As Oburu remains away on medical leave, Winnie has stepped squarely into the spotlight, reshaping the future of ODM and securing her place at the center of regional politics.
