Medical examiner identifies Cleveland man fatally shot at Mayfield Heights restaurant

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) – The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has identified the 45-year-old Cleveland man fatally shot in a restaurant parking lot Friday, Oct. 2.

Rice was killed at Piada Italian Street Food in the 6000 block of Mayfield Rd. around 4 p.m. on Oct. 2.

Police were called to the restaurant for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, Rice was found in the parking lot.

He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Mayfield Heights Police Chief Anthony Mele said three adults were taken into custody at the scene, but no charges have been filed at this time.

According to Chief Mele, agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) are assisting with the investigation.
