List of Counties to Expect Heavy Rainfall Starting on Tuesday Morning
The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in 17 counties over the next 24 hours, with strong winds expected in parts of northern Kenya.
The forecast covers 9pm on Monday, October 5, to 9pm on Tuesday, October 6. The bulletin was issued under the authority of Acting Director Edward Muriuki.
The counties expected to get rain are Kisumu, Siaya, Kericho, Kisii, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Trans Nzoia, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir and Marsabit.
Winds of more than 25 knots (12.5m/s), blowing from the south or southeast, are forecast over parts of Turkana, Samburu and Marsabit counties. The department said they could disrupt outdoor activities and livelihoods.
Turkana will be the hottest county, with temperatures between 26°C and 36°C. Nyandarua will be the coolest, ranging from 11°C to 22°C.
In western Kenya, Kisumu and Busia will reach highs of 31°C and 30°C respectively. Kisii will see moderate afternoon showers and thunderstorms with a high of 28°C. Nyamira will have light showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures between 15°C and 27°C.
In the east, Makueni will record the highest maximum at 32°C, while Tharaka-Nithi and Embu will each reach 28°C.
Nairobi can expect light showers in the afternoon, with temperatures from 15°C to 26°C.
Coastal residents in Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu should prepare for wet conditions through Tuesday evening.
The department issues daily forecasts to guide public preparedness and to advise sectors such as agriculture, aviation and marine activities.
