KP probes disease outbreak in Dir Kohistan forests
PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forest Department has launched a scientific assessment of fungal diseases and pest infestations affecting oak forests in Dir Kohistan to identify the causes and devise measures to protect the region’s forest resources. On the directives of Junaid Khan, Secretary of the Climate Change, Forestry, the Director of Research and Development (R&D) visited Patrak Forest Sub-Division, accompanied by scientists and plant pathologists from the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA), the Assistant Director R&D Malakand, the Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO) Patrak and other field staff.

The multidisciplinary team examined affected forest areas in Patrak, Biar and Barikot, conducted field observations and collected samples for laboratory analysis and diagnosis.
The assessment aims to establish the nature, extent and underlying causes of the reported fungal diseases and pest infestations and develop scientifically sound measures to contain their spread and protect the health of the region’s oak forests.
