Kenyan MP Sparks Attention With T-Shirts Mocking President Ruto During Edwin Sifuna’s Party Launch

Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo has found an unusual way of expressing his opposition to President William Ruto, turning his choice of clothing into a platform for political satire.

The ODM legislator has been spotted at several opposition gatherings wearing customised T-shirts carrying messages aimed at the President and his administration. His outfits have attracted attention online, with the designs combining humour, political criticism and references to current national debates.

During a Linda Mwananchi rally on October 4, 2026, Gisairo appeared in a white T-shirt bearing the words “empty @40”, a reference to Ruto’s recent description of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as “Mr Empty”. Gisairo used the message to turn the criticism against the President while showing solidarity with Sifuna, one of the leaders associated with the opposition movement.

The MP has also used his shirts to comment on government programmes and political promises. One of the designs compared Singapore and Korea with Haiti, while another carried the phrases “OL-Kagas” and “OL-Kashoe”. The latter was presented as a satirical reference to government donations and handouts made during presidential visits to different parts of the country.

Another T-shirt took aim at issues surrounding Tata Chemicals land and the government’s position on foreign traders. The design combined several political messages into one statement, reflecting Gisairo’s increasingly outspoken criticism of the administration.

On another occasion, the Kitutu Masaba MP appeared in a shirt carrying the words “Abductor in Chief” alongside an illustration of a police van. He also wore a shirt displaying the message “Wamekataa 6 months waambie 2060”, adding another layer of political mockery to his public appearances.

Gisairo has increasingly been associated with Linda Mwananchi, an opposition movement whose leaders have criticised what they describe as excessive executive influence over Parliament.

The lawmaker has said the movement is pushing for legislators to operate independently and represent the interests of Kenyans rather than serving the Executive.

His T-shirts have therefore become more than fashion choices. By putting political slogans on his clothes, Gisairo has created a visual form of protest that allows him to communicate with crowds without relying entirely on conventional political speeches.

The trend also highlights how political communication in Kenya continues to evolve, with leaders increasingly using social media, humour, fashion and viral content to reach supporters and challenge their opponents.
