Kenya Met Releases New Weather Forecast, Names 17 Counties Set to Receive Rainfall on Tuesday
The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in 17 counties between 9pm on Monday, October 5, and 9pm on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, while warning of strong winds in parts of northern Kenya.
The weather bulletin, issued under the authority of Acting Director Edward Muriuki, listed Kisumu, Siaya, Kericho, Kisii, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia and Trans Nzoia among the counties likely to receive rainfall.
Other counties included in the forecast are Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir and Marsabit. The expected rainfall is generally light to moderate, although conditions may vary between different areas within the counties.
Residents in parts of Turkana, Samburu and Marsabit were also warned about strong southerly to southeasterly winds. The winds are expected to exceed 25 knots, equivalent to about 12.5 metres per second, during the forecast period.
Temperature conditions are expected to differ considerably across the country. Turkana is forecast to record the highest temperatures, with a maximum of 36°C and a minimum of 26°C.
Nyandarua is expected to be among the coolest areas, with temperatures ranging from 11°C to 22°C. In western Kenya, Kisumu is forecast to reach a maximum of 31°C, while Busia could record up to 30°C.
Kisii is expected to experience moderate showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, with temperatures reaching about 28°C. Nyamira is also forecast to receive light showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 27°C.
In Nairobi, residents can expect a chance of light afternoon showers, with temperatures forecast to range from 15°C to 26°C.
The coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu are among the areas expected to receive rainfall through Tuesday evening. The weather department continues to issue forecasts to help residents and different sectors prepare for changing conditions.
