Heated Tension As Bad News Reaches Sifuna Why He May Not Become The President In 2027

Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has cast doubt on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s chances of becoming Kenya’s president in the 2027 General Election, citing divisions within the opposition.

Speaking during a media interview on Sunday, October 4, Wanga said opposition leaders could face difficulties agreeing on a single presidential candidate, warning that prolonged divisions could weaken their chances against President William Ruto.

Her remarks came a day after Sifuna unveiled The Equitable Party (TEP), which is expected to serve as his political vehicle as he seeks to contest the presidency in 2027.

Sifuna has stepped up his political activities in recent weeks following his differences with ODM and has moved closer to the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has endorsed him as its preferred presidential candidate.

Wanga said the opposition lacked the unity previously witnessed under the late Raila Odinga, making it difficult for one candidate to build a strong national campaign.

She also warned that delaying the selection of a presidential candidate could cost the opposition valuable time needed to mobilise voters and establish grassroots networks.

Wanga noted that Ruto already enjoys an advantage because he has continued touring the country and engaging voters.

Meanwhile, questions have emerged over the absence of several opposition leaders at Sifuna’s TEP launch.
