A 12-year-old girl has been killed in the United States (US) following a dispute over a parking space.

It happened at a youth football game in Baltimore, Maryland.

World news correspondent Vicki Turner told 702’s Ray White the girl was among the people caught in the crossfire after two men began shooting at each other.

“Two guys arguing over a parking space, something so stupid. A 12-year-old girl loses her life,” she said.

The shooting happened at Leon Day Park on Saturday evening, where people had gathered for a youth football homecoming event.

Turner said that when police arrived, they didn’t initially realise that anyone had been hurt.

“This 12-year-old had been hit and killed. Another woman had been hit. She is in hospital at the moment, recovering.”

Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said the girl was not believed to have been an intended target and has confirmed that four adults were also injured in the shooting.

Their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

Meanwhile, police are said to be looking for at least two suspects, who fled the scene.

“A 12-year-old girl loses her life, and they’re free to carry on.”

The girl’s family has since identified the young victim as Khloe Ishway.

Her family told WJZ they had only been at the event to drop something off and were not planning to stay long.

The girl’s mother, Kristen Reese, told local media, “I’m gonna just miss my baby whole. I miss everything about her.”
